During the weekend of November 22 to 24, the third edition of the specialization seminar on translation of classic works, "(Ri)Tradurre i classici", took place at ELE USAL. This intensive course is the only one in Italy aimed at young translators who want to get closer to the world of literary translation through the literary classics and, to date, ELE USAL Torino is the only School in the ELE USAL network to have focused part of his academic activity in the training of literary translators
The objective of the seminar is to thoroughly train the participants so that they know how to deal with the peculiarities of translating classic works, applying the same communicative and cooperative approach to translation as in our language and culture classes. The classes - which include a face-to-face part and an online part - end with the publication of the translated text, thanks to the collaboration between ELE USAL Torino and some independent publishers.
There are already six works that have been born from this course: this year "Viaje a Italia" by Benito Pérez Galdós (the first complete translation into Italian) and "The student" by Henry James have been published. In March 2020, a selection of "etchings" by Roberto Arlt and an unpublished one by Madame de Riccoboni will be published. Two other texts will come out of this latest edition of the seminar: by César Vallejo and by George Sand. Spanish is the fixed translation language of the seminar, to which are added, alternately, French or English.
We want to thank the students of this last edition of the course for 2019 for their brilliant participation, their seriousness and their dedication, which make the prestige of our seminar grow.

The third edition of the specialist seminar "(Re)translating the classics" was held at ELE USAL Turin, a unique intensive course in Italy, organized by the School of the University of Salamanca and aimed at young translators who wish to approach the world of translation through the classics of literature. At the moment, the Turin School is also the only one in the ELE USAL network to have set part of its academic activity on the training of publishing translators.
The aim of the seminar is to thoroughly train the participants to deal with the peculiarities of translating or re-translating classical works; in a completely innovative way, the ELE USAL School applies to translation the communicative, cooperative and linguistic immersion method that distinguishes the University of Salamanca in all its educational activities. The lessons - which include a face-to-face part and an online revision part - end with the publication of the text translated by the students, thanks to collaboration agreements between the School and some independent publishers
